The Mill On The River
This is probably one of the most picturesque locations for a Thanksgiving holiday meal in the Hartford area, making it extra special, especially for a Thanksgiving dinner, due to its history. The Mill On The River was formally a working mill and is the oldest mill in Connecticut. Both the colonists and local Indians built the mill over 200 years ago. In return for their help the colonists gave the Indians protection from the warring tribes of the Mohegans and Pequots. There is no better way to celebrate Thanksgiving than in a location that is so closely tied to the purpose of the day.
The Mill On The River has large a Thanksgiving menu and has a number of options besides but not excluding Turkey. There are over fifteen appetizers and starters on the holiday menu including cream of mushroom soup, Caesar salad and the unusual dish of pumpkin ravioli amongst the choices. For the main course there is of course a traditional roasted turkey, but there is also sirloin steak, prime rib, chicken, honey glazed ham and baked stuffed shrimp for those who aren’t fond of turkey. Side dishes are traditional Thanksgiving meal components; mashed turnips, baked sweet potato and acorn squash. You will want to make sure you leave room for dessert; choices are pumpkin pie, cheesecakes, apple pie, pecan pie and chocolate mousse layer cake.
The cost of the Thanksgiving meal at the Mill On The River restaurant is $28 per person. Included in the price is one choice from the holiday starters, one main dish, one dessert and teas and coffees. Certain menu choices including turkey are available at a discounted price of $17.95 for children under the age of twelve. It is necessary to make reservations in advance. There is no deadline for reserving your spot, but please note that the restaurant has limited space so it is advisable to reserve well in advance to avoid being disappointed.
